Background
Umbra Solis occupies a 19th century building built in the style of a medieval civic building, located in the north end of Boston, MA. The bookstore opened in 1921, and although it has changed owners four times since then, it has stayed in the same location and kept the same name that entire time.
The original 1887 structure was remodeled in 1981, adding modern wiring and plumbing in addition to repairing the mortar and stonework.
The first floor of the building is open to the public. This is the location of Umbra Solis itself, an occult bookstore like many others, with books on many New Age and Neopagan subjects, as well as having an extensive Mythology section. There are also several other businesses which rent space on the first floor: currently these are The Lofty Bean (which is a small independent coffee shop and jazz bar), a Christian Science Reading Room, and Famous Uncle Al's Hot Dogs.
The second floor is the private library of the owner, Soraya Morgan.
The third floor contains the living quarters of Ms. Morgan.
